BISMARCK — A nominating committee selected six finalists on Monday, May 16, to fill the North Dakota’s Board of Higher Education’s two open seats.
The eight-member Board of Higher Education oversees the North Dakota University System, which encompasses 11 public universities and colleges including North Dakota State University and the University of North Dakota.
The state’s University System has an approximate annual enrollment of 61,000 students and biennial budget of nearly $2.7 billion, according to the Department of Public Instruction.
The board will have two open seats — one formerly held by
Jill Louters, who resigned last week,
and the other currently held by Danita Bye, who is recommended for another term in her position.
The
Board of Higher Education’s nominating committee recommended
Erika Kenner, Kevin Black and Curtis Biller as finalists for Louters’ seat and Sabina Gasper, Stanley Schauer and Bye herself for Bye’s seat.
The finalists will be forwarded to Gov. Doug Burgum, who appoints the eight board members.
The Board of Higher Education’s nominating committee includes State Superintendent Kirsten Baesler, North Dakota Supreme Court Chief Justice Jon Jensen, North Dakota United President Nick Archuleta, Rep. Kim Koppelman, R-West Fargo, and Sen. Larry Luick, R-Fairmount.
