Are those faces I see ? Yes, they are!! For the first time since 2019, the annual IHM “Race For Education” featured students walking through the streets of Andorra mostly mask-free. And let’s face it…it’s hard for youngsters to enjoy a day like this under the tight restrictions that have controlled their existence for more than 2 years.
Following the twice around the block trek through the neighborhood, the children relished in frivolity in the school parking lot for the remainder of the morning. Spurred on by the pulsating sounds from DJ Craig Konowal’s Circle of Sound, the students frolicked, danced, and played silly games with sheer joy as if recapturing their own pre-pandemic childhoods. After working up a sweat on a warm, overcast day, the topper of the morning was indulging in a cup of free, delicious Rose’s Water Ice.
Of course, the purpose of the 13th annual event was to raise much needed revenue to support the functioning of the school. The list of needs in the school are plenty. Among those needs include a project to include new indoor security doors on both floors, replacing and upgrading chromebooks throughout the school, supplementing the cost of additional classroom upgrades, and initiatives to improve school climate.
The goal was to raise $25,000, but that number was shattered when the students were able to raise a whopping $31,000 to help make school improvements. A round of applause goes out to race sponsors including Dr. Dawn Cute of Optimum Health Chiropractic, Norristown Brick, and the McGuinn Realtors for their above and beyond generosity, and of course, the entire IHM community for their donations and support.
IHM Principal Patrick Foley was pleased as punch at the way the day turned out. He gushed, “great day and great event. I really want to thank Mrs. Traci Kovach for all her hard work and excellent planning (even down to the weather). Kids, staff, and parents had fun and we exceeded our fundraising goals. What more could I ask for?”
