ORLANDO, Fl.- Cassidy Binder (Sophomore/Beaverton, OR) concluded her 2022 campaign on Friday following her elimination in the round of 16 in the 2022 NCAA Division III National Championship in Orlando, Florida.
Round of 32
Binder found success to open the day in the round of 32 defeating the Liberty League Player of the Year, Alex Mednikova of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
Mednikova jumped out to a strong start winning set one 6-2. That would not phase Binder however, who bounced back with a 6-3 set win to even the match at one a piece. Battling against the Florida humidity, Binder needed to put together a strong deciding third set performance. She dropped the first game before winning five straight on her way to earn the 6-4 victory and advance to the round of 16.
Round of 16
In the second round, Binder faced Sarah Pertsemlidis of MIT. Pertsemlidis advanced to the round of 16 following a straight set 6-1, 6-1 win.
The junior from MIT opened up quickly with a 6-1 win over Binder in the first set. The success did not end there as she won the first three games of the second set. Binder and her counterpart would trade games on the way to Persemlidis earning the 6-3 win.
Cassidy Binder had a very successful sophomore campaign earning her second consecutive First Team All-Northwest Conference honor. She also finishes the 2022 campaign with a 20-1 record in singles play.
